This is the personal portfolio website of Dillon Wernich (dillonwernich.co.za). I keep data collection to the minimum a static website can have. This page explains exactly what happens to any information you share here, in plain language.
Who is responsible for this site
Dillon Wernich, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. For anything related to your data, email dillon.wernich@icloud.com. Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), I am the "responsible party" / "data controller" for this site.
What this site collects
Nothing, unless you use the contact form. This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, shows no ads and embeds no social media trackers. Fonts are hosted on this site's own server, so viewing the page sends no requests to font or content delivery networks.
The contact form
If you use the contact form, the name, email address and message you type are sent to my inbox so that I can reply to you. That is the only purpose they are used for.
- What is collected: your name, your email address, and the content of your message.
- Legal basis: the processing is necessary to respond to a request you make (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b) and legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f); consent and legitimate interest under POPIA).
- Service provider: submissions are delivered by Web3Forms, a form-to-email service that acts as a processor. Web3Forms' own privacy policy applies to that delivery step.
- Retention: I keep messages only as long as needed to handle the conversation, then delete them.
- No marketing: I will not add you to any mailing list or share your details with anyone else.

Hosting and server logs
This site is hosted on GitHub Pages, operated by GitHub, Inc. Like most web hosts, GitHub may log visitor IP addresses for security and operational purposes when serving the site. See GitHub's privacy statement for details. I do not have access to, and do not use, these logs.
Outbound links
The site links to third-party sites such as LinkedIn and GitHub. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy policy applies.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights under laws such as POPIA (South Africa), the GDPR (EU), the UK GDPR, and the CCPA/CPRA (California). These include the right to ask what personal information I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local regulator (in South Africa, the Information Regulator; in the EU, your national data protection authority). Since the only personal data I could hold about you is a contact-form message, the practical version is simple: email me and I'll confirm, correct or delete it.
Children
This site is a professional portfolio and is not directed at children. It collects no data from anyone unless they choose to send a message.
Changes to this policy
If anything about how this site works changes (for example, if I ever add analytics), I will update this page and the "last updated" date above before the change goes live.
